UPCOMING EVENTS

Prayer and Practices Financial Well-being(Luke 14:28-33)
In John 10:10, Jesus tells his followers, “I came that you might have life, and have it abundantly.” Living well is a personal journey that presents each of us with unique opportunities to steward all dimensions of our lives. On Wednesdays at 6:35 pm, starting May 14, you are invited to "Prayer and Practices" with Grace as we worship with Holden Evening Prayer and learn about the seven dimensions of well-being. Through the study, "Christ Calls Us to Wholeness," we will consider the ways God has created and blessed us. The Wholeness Wheel reminds us that as baptized believers, every aspect of our being belongs to God. When we pay attention to all aspects of our humanity — our bodies, our relationships, our money, our minds, our feelings, our work, our faith — we more fully experience that abundant life in Christ and radiate God’s love to others.

Read with Grace
Join us for the "Read with Grace" book club! We will be meeting at the church at 7 pm on June 8, instead of over Zoom!

Good Friday
“Good Enough: Embracing the Imperfections of Life and Faith”
Readings: Hebrews 10:16-25; John 18:1-19:42
Life and death stand side by side as we enter into Good Friday. In John’s passion account, Jesus reveals the power and glory of God, even as he is put on trial and sentenced to death. Standing with the disciples at the foot of the cross, we pray for the whole world in the ancient bidding prayer, as Christ’s death offers life to all. We gather in solemn devotion, but always with the promise that the tree around which we assemble is indeed a tree of life. We depart silently, and we anticipate the culmination of the Three Days in the Easter Vigil.
We’ll be joining in worship with Peace Lutheran Church at 34128 L Ave., Adel 50003.
Livestream will be available on the Peace Lutheran Facebook page

Maundy Thursday
This evening our Lenten observance comes to an end, and we gather with Christians around the world to celebrate the Three Days of Jesus’ death and resurrection. Tonight we remember Christ’s last meal with his disciples, but the central focus is his commandment that we live out the promise embodied in this meal. As Jesus washed his disciples’ feet, so we are called to give and receive love in humble service to one another. Formed into a new body in Christ through this holy meal, we are transformed by the mercy we have received and carry it into the world. Departing worship in solemn silence, we anticipate the coming days.

Palm Sunday
Readings: Luke 19:28b-40 and Luke 22:14-23:49 (The Passion according to Luke, read by the confirmation class)
Devotional Reflection: Peter, Broken by Failure “He Denied It”
Today we follow Christ from triumphal entry to the cross, each waypoint of the journey marked by Jesus’ compassion for those who would betray, mock, accuse, or do violence to him. Though persecuted and beaten, Jesus the Son of God is not disgraced; instead, he asks forgiveness for those who put him to death. We have walked the Lenten pathway these forty days, each of us invited through baptism to “let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus.” We enter this holy week accompanying Jesus to the cross with both grief and thanksgiving in our hearts, trusting in God’s redeeming love.

Ash Wednesday Evening Service
NOTE: Ash Wednesday worship has been cancelled. A video devotion with prayer and reflection is available: Ash Wednesday Devotional
We begin our forty-day journey toward Easter with a day of fasting and repentance. Marking our foreheads with dust, we acknowledge that we die and return to the earth. At the same time, the dust traces the life-giving cross indelibly marked on our foreheads at baptism. While we journey through Lent to return to God, we have already been reconciled to God through Christ. We humbly pray for God to make our hearts clean while we rejoice that “now is the day of salvation.” Returning to our baptismal call, we more intentionally bear the fruits of mercy and justice in the world.

Community Blood Drive
On Saturday, 3/1/2025, the Team Ryan Blood Drive will be held at Grace from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. Victoria Edwards says: “My son, Ryan, had open heart surgery when he was 6 months old and coded the following morning which required him to be placed on ECMO for a week. During this time he lost A LOT of blood, and we host a blood drive every year now in hopes that our blood drive can replace the amount that he required in 2019 through a large amount of blood transfusions. I never understood the importance of donating blood until my son desperately needed it, and luckily for us the blood bank had it for him at the time and now it’s my mission to spread the word and do everything in my power to make his blood drive a success.”
Please consider donating if you have a little free time on Saturday morning! Sign up for a time slot here: https://donor.lifeservebloodcenter.org/donor/schedules/drive_schedule/189690

Christian Education Service Project
Calling all Sewists!
For our upcoming service project on February 5th, Christian Education will be creating NICU Developmental Hearts. These hearts are worn by parents to absorb their scent and then placed with the baby in the isolette or crib to soothe the baby. This is also a way for babies to bond with parents through the comfort of having their scent nearby when physical contact isn't an option.
We are in need of help tracing and cutting the hearts out of the fabric so that we are able to jump right into the fun of sewing on the night of February 5th. The heart pattern and flannel fabric will be provided to you - you'll just need to provide the scissors! Fabric and patterns will be available to pick up from the church office starting on Wednesday (1/15) evening during regular church office hours and worship times. Please plan on returning the cut out hearts by Sunday, February 2nd at noon.
We are also in need of sewing machines to make these hearts! We'd greatly appreciate it if you are able to loan your machine for the night for the kids to sew on. We could also use the expertise of experienced sewists to help guide our students on the machines. Please click here to sign up to help make this service project possible!
Parents, please plan on joining your student(s) at Christian Education on February 5th to help make this a fun way for your students to help out in our community. We will begin the service project at 5:30 and be cleaned up and done at 6:25 for worship at 6:35.
