Social Action Ministry
Faith into action for community and society.
We live out our baptismal calling and the mission of Jesus Christ in our world: proclaim the love of God in both word and deed, serve all people following the example of Jesus, and strive for justice and peace.
The Social Action committee plans and coordinates opportunities for service, learning, and advocacy to help and support our neighbors in need.

You can engage with Social Action ministry through:
Awareness of issues in our community and the world.
Education to learn more about the issues that tug at our hearts and people who are vulnerable in our communities.
Donations of tangible items and financial gifts to directly benefit people and organizations.
Service with our “hands and feet,” gifts, talents, and resources.
Advocacy to influence decisions about public policy.
For example, through our partnership with the Adel Good Samaritan Food Pantry, folks can become aware of hunger and food insecurity in our community, learn more about why people experience food insecurity, donate money, food, and other items, serve in the Garden of Grace and at the pantry, and advocate about specific legislation (such as the Farm Bill and SNAP) with elected representatives.
Annual Projects and Events
“Souper” Bowl of Caring - canned goods to vote for teams to win the Super Bowl. All donations go to the Adel Good Samaritan Food Pantry.
Lutheran Day on the Hill – Lutheran Services of Iowa’s (LSI) biggest advocacy event of the year.
God’s Work, Our Hands – the ELCA’s annual day of service in September.
Hat & Mitten Drive – new or gently used hats and mittens in November for kids in local schools.
Giving Tree – Christmas gifts for families served by the Crisis Advocacy and Intervention Center.
ELCA Good Gifts – noisy offerings (from worship) and ornaments on the Giving Tree support this global ministry.
