Social Action: Lutheran Day on the Hill
Speak for those who can’t speak for themselves, for the rights of all those who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly, defend the rights of the poor and needy. ~ Proverbs 31:8, 9
He has told you, o mortal, what is good; and what does he require of you but to do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with your God. ~ Micah 6:8

On February 26, Pastor Tania and I joined over 200 fellow Lutherans to learn about critical issues facing Iowans. We met at Capitol Hill Lutheran Church in Des Moines, and listened to Lutheran Services in Iowa team members share about the needs of those they serve; they briefed us on pending legislation in the state house that affects their clients.
After lunch, we walked to the state capitol where we met with our state representatives and senators regarding issues pertaining to LSI.
It was a fun way to connect with other Lutherans from around the state and advocate for God’s children. There are many Bible verses telling us how God is pleased when we advocate for those are deemed the least of these. It may appear daunting to speak with legislators, but the fact is they are simply human too. Many times, the legislators aren’t aware of the issues until they are brought up by their constituents. Please consider joining us next year — save the date for February 2, 2027!
