Stations of the Resurrection
Last weekend, Dave and I spent the weekend in Decorah, listening to a wonderful concert with Nordic Choir, eating fabulous food, and relaxing! We also visited an art exhibit on the second floor of Luther College’s Center for Faith and Life to experience Scott Erickson’s “Stations of the Resurrection.” It was incredibly meaningful and moving, and since I can’t bring all of you to Decorah for the art exhibit (although that would be a super fun road trip), I thought I would bring the exhibit to you digitally!
These 14 evocative images reflect the premise that resurrection changes the way you see everything, and that through changed perspectives, the world itself can be changed. Each one of the stations draws from the resurrection story with an image and a written reflection that invites us into a change of perspective: one that affected the followers back then, and one that invites the followers right now.
Artist Statement: According to the scriptures, nothing seemingly changed in the world on the day that Jesus rose from the grave. Rome didn’t stop being in power. The religious leaders who asked for a crucifixion didn’t lose their jobs. It took a while before the followers of Jesus stopped hiding for their lives in a room together. It was all very small at first. So small that you’d think it wasn’t any kind of event at all. Continue reading the Artist’s Statement.
