Learn and Grow with Grace
“Okay, yes, Lord, I believe. Now what?”
That is how my call story[1] begins. When I became a Christian — came to faith in Jesus Christ — it was unexpected grace.
And, I had no idea what to do next.
I had so many questions about Jesus and His teachings. I wondered, “What does it mean, in my daily life, to believe in Jesus and, more importantly, to follow Him?” With no clear path or person to help me, I struggled to learn on my own through reading Scripture and other texts, classes and studies, conversations, and prayer.
Ever since that time, I have felt a strong desire to learn more about following Jesus, to grow in my understanding of Scripture, to deepen my faith, and then, most importantly, share it with other people.
This is the calling of my life. It drew me into leading Bible studies, serving in children's ministry, and becoming a pastor.
We are all called to learn and grow in our faith. Not just kiddos in Christian education. Not just confirmation students. Not just folks new to Christian faith. All of us.
With the rise of a particular type of Christianity[2] in the public sphere, it is more important than ever that we continue to nurture our faith and deepen our understanding of who God is and who we are as God's people. Learning about theology[3] should be accessible to everyone and should equip us for the transformation and discipleship that can be so hard.
So, as your pastor I am excited about offering opportunities for YOU to learn and grow with Grace in a variety of ways. Watch for these in Grace Notes and on the Events page. In October 2025, we are starting with a class called Animate: Faith. I would have loved a class like this when I first became a Christian!! I also believe that it could be meaningful for anyone. If you are wondering about your faith NOW, and what it means to be a Christian in the world today, I hope you will join us!
Grace and peace in Christ,
Pastor Tania
[1] A call story is often how pastors and other rostered leaders describe feeling a sense of being "called" into ministry. You might have a call story for your vocation too!
[2] Christian nationalism comes to mind, but could also be evangelical fundamentalism, which is distinct from Lutheran belief and understanding.
[3] Theology is the study of the nature of God and religious belief. YOU are a theologian! (did you know that?)
